About Wilmington

This dive site, Wilmington, can be found at Masonboro Inlet Jetty at Wrightsville Beach. It is rather simple to arrive at the site but parking can be a problem. A seawall, which one can see at low tide, is present from the shore all the way out to the rock jetty. It is highly dangerous walking on it. Sand generally covers any rocks on the inlet side of the wall. Flounder live in and around the site in abundance while the ocean side has lots of sheeps-head and a varied amount of other smaller fish. The tip is the preferred dive and is also the home to much larger fish, stingrays and large sharks. If weather conditions permit and the water is calm is a great site to snorkel. Otherwise, there is often a strong current present that creates pounding waves that divers should take extreme care of avoiding. Make sure you are not carried out to open sea by the current. Visibility is generally rather good at this dive site compared to other sites in the area. This dive should only be attempted by experienced divers.
