About USS Sturtevant Wreck

This ship was the second ship to be named after a Naval Aviator, Albert Sturtevant who was awarded the Navy Cross for his Heroic actions. During a escort flight in 1915 they were attacked by 10 German planes, he was the only one who stayed on and fought them. He was eventually shot down. The Sturtevant was built in 1918. In April 1942, just 2 hours out of port, 2 sudden explosions ripped through her, tearing her hull and sending her to her grave. No one's sure about what exactly happened, but its believed that the Sturtevant hit floating German Mines. She also had service in the second world war. A beautiful dive with lots of coral and marine life.
