About The Target Ships

The Target Ships near Tangier is a popular spot for both fishing and diving. There are two ships both above the water that have been practically destroyed from bombing. The ship to the east has a barge that is just below the water level. One should take care when piloting by the ship as it has sunk other boats in the past. The ship on the western side sits in roughly 15 feet of water. The wrecked vessel has a vast amount of marine life including croaker, trout, rockfish, sea bass, cobia, red drum and sheepshead. One should take care when fishing as the wreck is semi dangerous due to the amount of sharp metal and obstructions below the waters surface. There is also a moderate amount of live ammo at the sites bottom and occasionally bombs have been pulled up. Rather than using a regular anchor, take care to use a plastic water jug full of water that can be easily hauled up or even released.
