The Bow Mariner, a 570-foot tanker sank on the 28th of February 2004 after it caught fire and then exploded. Onboard was 3.5 million gallons of ethanol, 193,000 gallons of fuel oil and 48,000 gallons of stored diesel fuel. The ship was about 50 miles to the east of Chincoteague, Virginia in roughly 240 feet of water while it sank. Water temperature averages around 44 degrees.
