The Samuel P Ely was a Three Masted Schooner serving the Great Lakes, transporting Coal and Ore. On October 1896, enroute to twin Harbors, she and The Hesper ran into a severe storm. The Hesper which was her tugboat at this time, had to free the cables. Minutes later the Samuel P ely slammed into the breakwater rocks. Today she rests in shallow waters, mostly broken up and easy to dive. Lots to see and explore.
