About Pleasure Beach

Pleasure Beach is an easy dive, located directly across from the nuclear power plant (just to give you that warm, fuzzy feeling). There is a decent sized public parking lot there, equipped with a single street light to make you feel safe if you're night diving the spot. Access to the site is via the boat ramp, which will be self-evident when you get to the site. Some boaters get a bit miffed when divers are "clogging up" the boat ramp, and we have had the police and the DEP down there more than once. This site is relatively well protected from weather. Current and surface chop are minimal most of the time. There is a decent amount of marine life here, including sea horses if you time it just right. Some people bug here, but there are better places. There are, however, quite a few flounder in the water in this area, and some blackfish around the rocks, if hunting is your thing. Be aware that this site is patrolled by both the Connecticut DEP and by the Waterford Police Departments. Accordingly, make sure that you've got the appropriate licenses with you and properly displayed in your vehicle if you're going hunting, and be prepared to allow them to inspect your catch.
