About Lydgate State Park

This is a shallow beginner shore dive adequate for a first dive or two, or good easy snorkeling. One of the few beach parks in Kauai that have lifeguards. It is situated near the resort hotel with all the facilities. The sandy beach makes a wonderful kid's paradise! The protective sea wall keeps the water very calm so there are no waves or currents. Nice easy entry and exit to the water. Visibility varies depending on the tides and weather. Going to the right side it is a very long surface swim out, about 20 minutes but it is worth it. Nice sandy bottom, with lots of shells and stuff to find in the sand. One warning about the waters at Lydgate Park: don't venture outside of the lagoon walls. Lydgate is on the east shore of Kauai, which receives strong currents and unpredictable ocean conditions. Directions: Heading North from Lihu'e on Highway 56, turn right into the park at about mile mark 5.5. If you've crossed the Wailua River, you've gone too far.
