About John Marvin

The John Marvin went down just off Long Island in the same storm as another ship, the Valerie E. An unexpected 'nor'easter' storm dumped a pile of snow on the area and caused flooding and ten-foot-plus seas which caught the fishing fleet, the Valerie E, by surprise. Not all members of the crew of the Valerie E survived. However, the Coast Guard was able to get the John Marvin's crew off the ship safely and so the sinking of the John Marvin was but a footnote in reports of the disastrous sinking of the Valerie E.
