About Jim Atria Artificial Reef

In september 1987 the Broward County Artificial Reef Program sank the 75m Dutch cargo freighter Poinciana in 34m of water. Hurricane Andrew moved the ship offshore to a depth of 42m. She now sits upright with her two masts still intact and rising to within 21m of the surface. The foof on the portside of the wheelhouse, which begins at 29m has collapsed. Thick growth covers her starboard side and the walls of her cargo hole are carpeted with spiny oysters.
