About Isaac Hale Beach Park

This beach is located on the eastern edge of Pohoiki Bay. Also known as Pohioki and it is an oceanfront park. Swimming is poor due to strong currents and wave action. Although the park in known for good snorkeling, conditions are usually not ideal, however, the area is good for diving as the ocean floor is rocky, Local fisherman use the area to launch their boats. Oceanfront park facilities include rest rooms and picnic areas. There are shady trees and grassy areas surrounding this bay. Facilities include restrooms, picnic tables, and a picnic pavilion here. Be careful on the boat ramp. It's very slippery. Not a safe area at night. The area has numerous thermal pools dotted around the surrounding jungle. There is a shoreline trail to the right of the boat launch that veers inland. Follow this trail for about 137 meter. Approximately 15 meter from the ocean is another natural warm pool. This small isolated pool is surrounded by vines and a tropical jungle. Bring insect repellent as mosquitos can be bad here, but the view is amazing. Directions: Starting from Hilo Bay, head South on Highway 11 (Kanoelehua Ave) for 7.4 miles to Kea'au. Head South on Highway 130 for 7.5 miles. Make a left on Pahoa Pohoiki Road (132) and travel for 7.3 miles. You will enter the park at the end of the road.
