About George Weems

Although the visibility is bad (less than 10 feet) at this spot so it is possible to miss something, the wreck does seem to be rather empty. It's possible that the wreck is a 'shoal wreck', one that covers and uncovers as the sand bottom shifts. The wreck seems to be mostly contiguous with small sand gaps between the bow and the stern. The greatest relief on the wreck is given by the boilers and the engine. Some divers have found large brass and bronze spikes, presumably used to build the ship.
