There are 5 rock fingers coming out of the jetty into Newport bay. Each of these can be a good dive spot, and are considered the most common dive spot for Newport. the Fingers are easily visible from the bridge, and after coming over the bridge, turn right to get to them. The parking is just off the road on the dirt turnout, and you'll be parked within easy walking distance to the water (20 feet). You'll have to do some rock-hopping to get in, and be careful as the rocks can be slippery since at high tide they are covered in water. Once in, consider this a tide-dependent rating on ease of dive. If you dive during a tidal exchange, you can definitely get taken for a ride, so be aware of the degree of difficulty. Best time is about an hour or two after high tide to hit the slack, and make this an easy level dive. Also, if you dive the fingers that are further away from the opening to the ocean (closer to the bridge) you'll have less tide. Do not try to go out past the fingers without being ready to go for a ride.
