About Elephant Butte

This dive site, called Elephant Butt, is located in the Elephant Butte Reservoir. It was created due to a dam being built in 1916 across the Rio Grande. It is 40 miles long with 200 or more miles of shoreline. It is New Mexico's number one water recreation area. It is very popular with water skiers, jet skiers and boaters so take care when diving.
