About Chilore

This dive site features the wreck of an 8310 ton ore carrier that was torpedoed by the U-576 off Cape Hatteras which then hit an Allied mine and finally broke down in about 60 feet of water near the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay. The wreck is nothing more than a huge pile of debris and is largely hazardous. It is dived rather infrequently.
