About Allenhurst Jetty

Allenhurst Jetty is a gigantic construction, possibly the largest north of the Manasquan Inlet. The jetty's odd shape is the result of the 1916 Matawan shark attack scare. Parents could let their children swim in the sheltered lagoon without fear of their children being attacked. Rocks belonging to a neighboring house surround the whole beach section and as long as one does not make a mess the owner does not mind its use. The jetty can be found below a concrete ramp towards the end of the boardwalk. One can hike diagonally to the cove, enter, and swim to the point. This is the fastest and simplest way into deep water. Climbing the rocks can be difficult as they are very slippery, rather entry point to exit the water as well.
