About Blacktail Spit

The Blacktail Spit Buoy serves as a marker for the entrance to the River Crouch. September is considered the optimal month for diving in the Thames. The area is the final resting place for several aircraft that participated in dogfights along the coast. The Thames was a favored route for German forces attempting to reach London. The site contains the remains of two German and one English fighter plane. These are war graves and should not be disturbed under any circumstances.
