About Eden Rock

Eden Rock is on the West coast of Mounga'one Island. The rock at this point of the island has been beautifully carved by out by the sea to leave one huge piece standing alone on the water. The dive begins over deep canyons which run from the shallows out and down into the deep. The dive moves over these canyons hugging the reef on the left before coming to a fantastic vertical wall that goes from 12 meters to approximately forty before sloping off to over 50 meters. Off the wall is a huge coral bommie that starts at 20 meters, is ten meters across and drops off onto the slope with the bottom at approximately fifty meters. White tip sharks often laze around the base and become active in the presence of divers, shifting positions and keeping a wary eye on the commotion above. Gray Reef Sharks can also be encountered here, skirting leisurely along the drop-offs. Large sea whips reach out from the wall and beautiful table corals hang to the side. Lots of encrusting life gives plenty of colour and Nudubranch can be spotted. Green Moray hide in the crevices. Schooling Moorish Idols pour over the wall and Trevally and Tuna can be seen cruising in the blue. A deep crevice at the end of the wall and in thirty meters depth has some beautiful red Sea Fans growing on its walls and the sandy bottom is a good place to see Giant Reef Ray. The final ascent along the wall is covered in pristine corals with an abundance of the smaller reef fish one would expect in the tropics. The pristine nature of the reef here is refreshingly marvelous and often enhanced by a visibility so crystal clear that it makes the depth seductively deceptive, the tendency to slip deeper and deeper is really evident on this one. This is an exciting and unforgettable dive for the topography alone, all the fish are a real bonus!
