Big Blue Freediving

About Big Blue Freediving

We are one of Koh Tao's first Scuba resorts to embrace the art of freediving and in 2012 opened Big Blue Freediving and instantly became the only center on Koh Tao with a pool in which to practise and our own dedicated Freediving boat. Inspired by the movie classic Le Grande Bleu, directed by Luc Besson, and starring Jean Reno & Jean Marc Barr the movie is a story focusing on the friendship of 2 legendary Freedivers Jacques Mayol and Enzo Maiorca in the world of competitive freediving. It was due to the impact of this movie on my life that when it came to giving my new Dive center on Koh Tao a name in the early 90's I opted for the name of my favourite movie- Big Blue. So it was with enormous excitement when we first opened Big Blue Freediving and now nearly 10 years later we are very proud of just how many divers we have trained in the skill of breathholding. At Big Blue Freediving we focus on training individuals to become confident freediverscame to open Dive Center We believe that Freediving allows you to glide through the ocean and swim through its accessible caves, what we call ‘swim throughs’! Freediving enables you to explore freely and discover our magical underwater world. Freedivers, regardless of age, have the opportunity to experience the ocean like never before!

Warm 26-29 °C waters, 15-30 m visibility and a laid-back Creole-Garífuna culture turn every surface interval into a tropical holiday. Whether you’re certifying in shallow seagrass meadows or racking up tech-level depth on coral-encrusted ledges, Belize blends world-class marine biodiversity with sustainable operators, eco-minded lodges and easy travel connections—making it the perfect base for both first-time bubbles and bucket-list underwater adventures.
