About Shark Rock Pier

This is a shore dive conveniently situated off the end of a landmark in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan area called - Shark Rock Pier. The name is a bit misleading, as this isn't exactly a Shark invested site and sharks are seldom, if ever seen here. If you're lucky you might see a Shy Shark, Pyjama Shark or Leopard Shark. Probably only juveniles and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Great Whites ! You can easily enter off Hobie Beach which has all the amenities you could ever wish for diving off these main city beaches. With a bus stop about 100 m away from the car park, you could literal grab your kit and hop the bus to this dive site stopping at the local dive shop (in the car park) to grab a cylinder or two. The reef itself is about 300 m from the bus stop, at the end of the pier and consists of clusters of small rocks which are home to schools of local juveniles. It's a great family dive and surf here is normally very small making the entry and exit easy as pie. All round a good wholesome dive site visibility permitting. It's another night dive favorite.
