About Malay Pools

Another classic shore dive which has been a favorite for a very, very long time within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole. This shore dive is out of Algoa Bay on the 'Wild Side' and provides the stunning sights associated with this side of Port Elizabeth which you'd normally have to reach by boat. A colourful dive with plenty of rocky reefs to explore while safe enough for the novice diver. It drops off to a maximum of 8 or 9 metres.

Dive Site Hazards

  • Hidden Depth Variations — Complex reef topography can conceal depth changes, leading to unintended profile variations.

  • Distraction from Marine Activity — High fish activity can distract divers and delay depth or gas awareness.

  • Rapid Surge Direction Changes — Surge near reef structures can reverse direction quickly, pushing divers sideways into unexpected areas.
