About Gasmic

Another great dive within the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan area, this one one on the 'wild side' ie out of Algoa Bay. Gasmic is an 'orgasmic' dive ie very, very exciting and special. It consists of a narrow gorge with dramatic walls covered in all sorts of local marine 'vegetation'. Max out at 28m and leave breathless taking in the stunning horsefish and variety of Rod Cod, Miss Lucys and Red Romans. Occasional visiting Shy Sharks, Pyjama Sharks and Leopard Sharks entertain while Raggies are not uncommon.

Dive Site Hazards

  • Unstable Visual Ascents — Relying on wall visuals can destabilise ascents.

  • Gradual Depth Creep — Lack of visual bottom reference can cause unnoticed descent.

  • Unsignalled Downcurrents — Downcurrents can form without visible indicators.

  • Situational Awareness Loss — Divers may fixate on sharks and lose depth or position awareness.

  • Subtle Behavioural Shifts — Changes in shark behaviour may be missed without active observation.

  • Blue-Water Reference Loss — Lack of visual references increases ascent and descent instability.
