About Cracker

Also on the 'Wild Side' ie out of Algoa Bay in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan area, Cracker is an excellent 'shallow' water dive of 12 - 17m. Cracker is fundamentally a clump of rises within a patch of holes and crevices. The centre cluster is surrounded by pure white sand and scattered rocky bit which remind one of an island paradise on a clear day. The name is derived from the Mussel Cracker species known to frequent this red-bait covered site which is also covered with ferns and soft corals. Plenty of starfish and an assortment of local juvenile fish species like Jan Bruin, Rock cod and Parrot fish gather here. The Queenmoor was wrecked nearby (today its remains have practically disappeared) and many belief Cracker may have been the culprit. The dive is well worth the longer boat ride.
