About Jakob Maersk

This 260 meter long oil tanker was built in 1966.On January 29th 1975 the vessel caught on fire and then exploded,the crew was made up of 32 people of which 26 survived the blast while some remained severely burned,the fire itself lasted 3 days and was one of the top 20 oil leaks of all time.While sinking the vessel broke into 2 pieces of which one was towed away later cause of the hazzard it posed to other ships.What remains of her now lies at a depth of about 15 meters
