About U.S.S Perry

USS Perry Depth: 240' / 75 m The USS Perry struck a mine at the stern and sank within two hours, just one day before Peleliu and Angaur were invaded. Most of the crew survived, among them 78 year old Mr Larry Tunks who the initiated the very events that led to its recovery. It took the search team 4 hours to do what no one had succeeded in for 60 years, and ironically, if you know where to look the visibility is so good it can be seen from the air. The ship is 314.4 feet in length and weighs 1190 tons, its two halves are still connected at the keel and lay on the port side. Mine sweeping gear is strewn on the bottom of the ship's stern. Due to depth, required decompression time and strong currents, this is a technically rated dive. Visibility is great at 120 feet. Location: Angaur Island. Southern most island of the Palau archipelago. Marine life: A good few pelagic families
