About Magnet Wreck

The Magnet was a 148 Ton Barque that sailed under the command of Captain Lewis. She was enroute from Wellington for Waikouaiti when rough seas pushed her into the rocks at Ilolaki Whaling Station. She sank within 2 hours with only one life lost. Today her coral encrusted remains can be seen in a depth of 10 meters. Abundant marine fish now watches over her. Lots to be seen.
