About Karaka Point

About 8km east of Picton on Port Underwood Rd. The road takes a fairly sharp u-bend and there is a car-park area on the left. A track leads down to a small beach (keep left!) and also out to the point of the small peninsula. The dive site is actually set back from the point a few hundred metres on the western side of the peninsula. The track is steep in places and drops several hundred metres to the beach. The bottom is mostly sandy and fairly featurless although there is a small wreck here (old fishing boat) at about 10-12m. 'Boris' the eel lives under the wreck. Plenty of spotties and a few larger fish. Access by boat is a lot easier than lugging all your gear down the small track.
