About Defender Wreck

The Defender was a Australian Wooden Hulled Steamer. She was transporting a cargo of Motor Spirits when a fire broke out on her while moored in Kings Wharf. On August 2, 1918, shortly after she cauf=ght fire, she was towed from the wharf, cut loose, and drifted to Somes Island where she eventually exploded and sank. She rests in shallow water and is still very much intact. Here you will find many interesting artifacts to explore. Beautiful corals and marine life envelopes her.
