About Kiyosumi Maru

The Kiyuzumi Maru lies 600 yards from Fefan Island, Chuuk Lagoon in water 31 metres (100 feet), 12 metres (40 feet) to deck. It's a 6,983 ton 6-hold freighter, 137 metres (450 feet) in length with a surrounding: 20 metres (65 feet) vis. The wreck rest port side and has plenty of growth. You can see the lantern locker with bronze parts of lanterns on the shelves after which you can exit at deck level through the back where there are some pots and china. For weeks before Pearl Harbour the Kiyuzumi was commandeered by the Imperial Navy. She took three blows in a fray before Chuuk and suffered a flooded hold after which she was taken there for repairs. Dive bombers fired torpedoes which sank her shortly after impact. There are six holds and one can see gun platforms on the bow and stern, and pairs adjacent to holds one, two and five. Hold two is penetrable from doors between decks or the bomb hole. The bridge is damaged but can still be explored and the lower levels here lead out to hold four. One can also see torpedo launchers on the rear hold.
