About I-169 Submarine

The I-169 Submarine lies near Weno, Chuuk Lagoon in 40 metres (144 feet). It is a 1,400 ton submarine, 102 metres (336 feet) in length with surrounding waters sporting a 20 metres (65 feet) vis. During Operation Hailstone the sub was replenishing fuel and never surfaced due to a flooded control room. It was blown up consequently by depth charges to ensure it wasn't compromised but the Allies. The hatch near the stern is open and bedecked with soft coral. The conning tower on the aftship, tripod mast, propellers and cables part of the degaussing device are worth investigation.
