About Fumitsuki Maru

The Fumitsuki Maru lies in the Chuuk Lagoon near Udot. A 1,772 ton destroyer, 97 metres (320 feet) in length in 30m of water sports a 25m vis. There is prolific coral gooth all over the bow and stern guns. There are open hatches facilitating penetration in to the rear bridge. It was a member of the 5th Destroyer Flotilla and serve din the Solomon Islands for a time. After a few unlucky encounters with US planes it was sent back to Chuuk, stripped of ammo, boilers and machinery and then anchored between Dublon and Fefan Islands, near the Kiyozumi Maru and Kansho Maru. During Operation Hailstone she was hit and after repairs to the leaking hull and a tug that failed to move her in the strong winds she sank stern first. Only one blade can still be seen the others are buried. There's a hole on the port side and two gun platforms in front along with torpedo launchers. The forecastle is on the same level and can be penetrated through the two doors on either side of the ship.
