About Amagisan Maru

This: 7,620 ton passenger / cargo ship is 136 metres (450 feet) long and lies at 61 metres (200 feet) Its is roughly 37 metres (120 feet) to deck and 31 metres (100 feet) to top of wreck. The vis here is around 20 metres (65 feet) You can drop onto the bridge and into the hold at about 50m. The torpedo and bomb damage from the nine planes, one of which launched a 1,000lbs bomb can be seen stern lies deeper than the bow. The No1 hold has some 55 gallon drums and here you can even see a large car. The port side sports a 10 foot long aileron (paravane) mine sweeper. The starboard side shows the torpedo hole . The Amagisan Maru had a fuel tanker truck on its deck that slid off when it sunk and can now be seen aside the forward hold. This freighter was launched in 1933 by Mitsui Bussan Kaisha Ltd of Tama, Japan. The ship was anchored off Uman Island when Operation Hailstone hit using five Curtis SB2C Helldiver dive bombers. It's a very large wreck and needs more than one dive to explore properly.
