About Xlendi Bay

Xlendi Bay is a dive site situated on the southwest coast of Gozo island, within the village of Xlendi. The bay features a sandy middle and rocky sides, with towering cliffs above the water. Divers can explore a shallow 70 m long tunnel cave and a vibrant reef teeming with marine life such as Cardinals, Damselfish, Goatfish, Gurnards, Lionfish, Painted Combers, and Stonefish. The site is ideal for beginners and dive training, with the deeper reef suitable for technical dive training. Night diving is also possible in the shallow bay. Entry and exit for shore dives are on the south side of the bay from a concrete diving platform with metal steps, which are removed during winter. The dive sites are located opposite the entry/exit point on the other side of the bay.

Xlendi Bay can be accessed either from the shore or as a boat dive. However, divers should be cautious of boat traffic while crossing the bay. The bay is mostly sheltered but can become rough with southwesterly winds. Visibility can be reduced after heavy rain as the valley behind the village channels rainwater from the surrounding areas into the bay. At a depth of 110 metres outside Xlendi Bay, divers can find a 2700-year-old Phoenician shipwreck. Another notable dive site in Gozo is the MV Xlendi wreck, located in Xatt l-Ahmar. The maximum depth of the site is 60 metres, with an approximate maximum visibility of 45 metres. The site has no current, making it a popular spot for swimming and snorkeling.
