About Wied il-Mielah

Wied il-Mielah valley, located in Gharb on the north-western corner of Gozo island, is home to the Wied il-Mielah Window, a natural megalithic archway over the sea. This archway is similar to the Azure Window that was in Dwejra before its collapse in 2017. The dive site at Wied il-Mielah is only accessible by boat and features a large cave with an air pocket under the arch of the window. The entrance to the cave is approximately 16 meters deep, and a 30-meter-long reef can be found at a depth of 12 meters from the foot of the arch. Between the reef and the wall, the depth drops to 18 meters, offering a nice swim through under the rocks.

West of the window, there is another cave/crack at 20 meters that opens up to the surface, providing great scenery and photo opportunities. Further west, the wall drops to 18-20 meters and the sea bed slopes down with some boulders. Straight out from the archway into the blue at about 30-35 meters, a shoal of barracudas is often seen. To the east of the window, the wall drops to a depth of 50 meters or more. This dive site is recommended for beginners and is classified as a cave dive site.
