About Valletta

Valletta, the capital of Malta, offers a unique diving experience on the north east coast of the country. The dive sites are situated at the end of the peninsula, outside the city walls, between the entrance to Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour. Notable sites include St. Elmo Bay, home to the famous World War II wreck HMS Maori, and a reef dive site at the seaward tip of Fort St. Elmo. Divers should be aware of boat traffic in the area and always carry a DSMB when diving in the harbour area. The area provides seven entry/exit points, ranging from ladders to stairs to a sloping path, and facilities such as car park, cafes/bars and toilets are available.

The maximum depth of the dive is 30 meters, making it suitable for beginners. However, divers are advised not to leave any valuables in the car due to reported thefts. While there are other World War II wrecks in Valletta, they are rarely dived due to their location inside the busy Grand Harbour. These include the destroyer HMS Jersey, the tugboat/minesweeper HMS Andromeda, and the Submarine Pen. The dive site type is a combination of reef and wreck, offering a diverse underwater experience.
