About Tugboat 10

Tugboat 10, also known as Iz-Zaghra, is a 16-meter long wreck located near Zonqor Point in Marsaskala, on the southeast coast of Malta. This former tugboat, which worked in the Grand Harbour of Valletta, was scuttled in May 1998 along with another tug, St. Michael, to form an artificial reef and scuba dive site. The wreck lies upright on a flat sandy bottom with a maximum depth of 21 meters, and is about 50 meters east from the bow of St. Michael. The site is sheltered from the northwest winds, making it a popular dive site during the summer. It is suitable for PADI OWD or equivalent level divers.

The Tugboat 10 and St. Michael wrecks have transformed an ecologically barren area of seabed into a vibrant habitat for a variety of marine life. They are now partially overgrown with corals and sponges, creating two lovely artificial reefs. These wrecks offer an excellent opportunity for all levels of divers to practice wreck diving at medium depths. They are some of the few shallower wreck dives in Malta, with other similar sites including Tug 2, Patrol Boat P31, HMS Maori, and X127/Carolita.
