About Tent Peg Wreck

Tent Peg Wreck is a wreckage site located in Marsamxett Harbour, between Ta'Xbiex and Manoel Island in Malta. It is the remains of an old steel cargo steamer, known to local divers as Tent Peg Wreck due to the large number of tent pegs left from its cargo. The site is not a traditional shipwreck as very little of the original structure remains. It is situated in a South Westerly direction from the barge Carolita in a small valley, and can be reached either by swimming from the barge or from the Ta'Xbiex seafront. The maximum depth of the site is 20 meters.

The wreck is home to a diverse range of marine life and is recommended for advanced divers due to the poor visibility and the undulating seabed composed of fine white silt and sand. It is located in a busy yachting area with significant boat traffic overhead, making the use of a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) essential. Despite its limited appeal to some divers, Tent Peg Wreck offers a unique harbour dive experience and can serve as a sheltered dive site during bad weather.
