SS Margit

The SS Margit is a World War II wreck dive located in Kalkara Creek, on the eastern side of Grand Harbour of Valletta, Malta. This Panamanian steam passenger ship, built in 1912, was sunk during an air raid on 19th April 1941. Also known as MV Odile, the wreck lies at a depth of 22 meters on a silty bottom, parallel to the shore. The ship, which is around 100 meters long, is quite broken and listed to the port side. Her two masts and funnel have been removed by explosives.

Due to its location in the harbour area, visibility at the SS Margit dive site is not as great as other Maltese dive sites. Boat traffic necessitates the use of a DSMB. The site is recommended for advanced divers due to its depth and the challenging conditions. The SS Margit is a wreck dive, offering a glimpse into the maritime history of the region.
