About Slugs Bay

Slugs Bay is a reef dive site located on the north side of Mellieha Bay in north-eastern Malta. The site is characterized by a shallow reef with a maximum depth of around 12 metres, featuring a rich variety of marine life and a natural rock arch formation. The seabed is composed of rocks, sea grass, and sand. On the east side of the bay, divers can discover fossilized shark teeth in an area of small shingle and sand. The bay is sheltered from the north-northwesterly winds, making it a suitable dive site when conditions elsewhere are not favourable.

The site is accessible for all levels of divers and is often used for scuba diving training and try dives. The sandy bottom areas provide a safe environment for practicing skills and it is also a great spot for underwater photography. Divers can access the site either from the shore or by boat, with two entry/exit points for shore dives available - one from the concrete jetty and the other from the rocks next to the jetty. However, caution is advised as the jetty can be slippery when wet. The site is accessible only with 4x4 vehicles, with parking located approximately 40-100 metres away over uneven terrain.
