Qawra Reef

Qawra Reef is an offshore dive site situated approximately 500 m off Qawra Point on the northeast coast of Malta. The reef begins just before L-Cave and extends about 300 m to the Imperial Eagle wreck and Statue of Christ, continuing even further. The top of the reef is about 15-20 m deep, with a steep drop-off down to 30-40 m, and the sandy bottom slopes even deeper. The reef features a rough wall with cracks and holes, and a series of large, beautiful caves and caverns that go inside and under the reef. The cave entrances are wide and the caverns are shallow, with a sandy bottom at a depth of 29-33 m.

Outside the caves, divers can find huge boulders and possibly groupers. Barracudas and other large fish species are often sighted on this spectacular reef. Divers can access the site from the shore with a long swim, or from a boat that can anchor very close to the edge of the reef. However, divers should be aware of boat traffic and carry a DSMB if diving from the shore. Due to its depth, Qawra Reef is suitable for experienced divers. Divers should monitor their depth, time, and gas supply. The site typically offers excellent visibility, although there can occasionally be strong currents on top of the reef.
