About P29

Patrol Boat P29, also known as Boltenhagen, is a popular dive site located approximately 150m off the shore of Cirkewwa, Malta. This former patrol boat for the Maritime Squadron of the Armed Forces of Malta was intentionally scuttled in 2007 to serve as a scuba diving attraction and artificial reef. The wreck, which is 52m long, sits upright at a depth of 34m with the highest part only 12m deep from the surface. The site is accessible from the shore and is marked by a big yellow buoy during the summer season. The wreck is safe for divers and offers plenty of marine life to view during exploration of the exterior.

The P29 was built in East Germany in 1969-70 and served as a minesweeper and patrol boat. After German reunification in 1990, it was used by the German Federal Coast Guard before being sold to Malta in 1997. It was decommissioned in 2004 and bought by the Malta Tourism Authority in 2005 to be scuttled as a diving attraction. The wreck now sits on sandy seabed with her stern being the closest point to the coast, and her bow pointing towards the sea. This dive site is recommended for advanced divers due to its depth and the possibility of exploring the interior of the wreck.
