About ORP Kujawiak

ORP Kujawiak is a World War II wreck dive located a few kilometres east of Valletta, Malta. This historical wreck, originally named HMS Oakley, was a Hunt class Polish escort destroyer that sank in 1942 after running into a mine. The wreck, which lies at a depth of around 100 metres, was discovered in 2014 and opened for diving in 2019. The 85-metre long shipwreck rests on her port side with the stern pointing north and is in good condition, except for the bent stern. This dive site is managed by Heritage Malta and requires a special permit for diving.

The ORP Kujawiak is a technical dive recommended for experienced trimix divers. The wreck is a war grave and is a poignant reminder of the 13 Polish servicemen who lost their lives when the ship sank. The site is also a sister ship of HMS Southwold, another technical wreck dive in Malta. Divers should note that the wreck is a boat dive and the current conditions should be checked before diving.
