About MV Cominoland

MV Cominoland is a popular diving wreck located off shore Xatt l-Ahmar in southeast Gozo. This former Captain Morgan Cruises passenger ship was scuttled in August 2006 to create an artificial reef for scuba diving. The wreck is approximately 35 m long and sits upright on a sandy seabed at a maximum depth of around 40 m. The ship has two decks that offer ample opportunities for exploration and is safe to penetrate due to the various openings cut before scuttling. The wreck starts at 32 m with the deck at 35 m and her bows in 39 m depth. It lies about 60 m east from another wreck, Karwela, and is considered the second most dived wreck around Gozo.

The MV Cominoland was built in England in 1942 as a small minelayer and later converted into a ferry boat and then a pleasure cruise ship. Before being scuttled, the ship was made safe for the environment and divers. The wreck is usually done as a shore dive but can also be dived from a boat. The site is suitable for beginners, with no current and an approximate maximum visibility of 45 m. Divers can expect to see various marine life at this wreck dive site.
