About HMS Urge

HMS Urge (N17) is a World War II submarine wreck located off the coast of Malta. This British U class submarine, measuring 58 m in length and 4.9 m in width, tragically sank on 27th April 1942 after striking a naval mine, resulting in the loss of all 44 lives on board. The wreck was discovered in 2019 and is found at a depth of approximately 130 m. The submarine is upright and in good condition, with the exception of the bow which suffered significant damage.

The dive site is recommended for technical divers due to the depth and potential hazards of the wreck. Other notable submarine wreck dives in the vicinity include HMS Stubborn, a popular dive site that was scuttled in 1946, and HMS Olympus, which met a similar fate to HMS Urge, hitting a mine in May 1942. The dive site offers a unique opportunity to explore a piece of World War II history.
