About HMS Andromeda

HMS Andromeda is a World War II wreck located in Valletta, Malta. Originally a tugboat built in Dartmouth, England in 1933, it was later requisitioned and converted into a minesweeper for the British Royal Navy. On 18th April 1942, while leaving the Grand Harbour of Valletta, the Andromeda was hit by bombs during an air raid and sank in the middle of the harbour entrance. The wreck now rests on sand at a maximum depth of 20 metres, with the top of the wreck at 16 metres.

Due to its location and shallow depth, diving at the HMS Andromeda wreck site is only possible when the Grand Harbour is closed. The site is recommended for advanced divers due to the potential challenges posed by the wreck's location. Nearby, divers can also explore another World War II wreck, the destroyer HMS Jersey, located at the entrance of the harbour. The dive site type is classified as a wreck.
