About Harq Hamiem Cave

Harq Hammiem Cave, also known as Ghar Harq il-Hammiem, is a unique dive site located on the north side of St. Georgeâ€™s Bay in St. Julian's, Malta. This is the only known fully submerged terrestrial cavern in the Maltese islands, making it a special destination for technical divers. The cave features two chambers on different levels, connected by a narrow corridor. The surface of the water is 16 metres below sea level, while the maximum depth reaches 52 metres.

The water inside the cave varies in salinity, starting as freshwater at the surface, becoming brackish with depth, and exhibiting seawater characteristics at deeper levels. This unique environment is home to the rare albino shrimp. Due to the complexity and depth of the cave, this dive site is recommended for divers with technical experience.
