About Fungus Rock

Fungus Rock, also known as Mushroom Rock or General’s Rock, is a dive site located at Dwejra on the west coast of Gozo. The site is situated 700 metres south of Azure Reef and Blue Hole, and features a small islet at the entrance of the circular lagoon of Dwejra Bay. The massive limestone rock rises almost vertically about 60 metres high above sea level. The dive site is accessible by boat, with anchoring in Dwejra Bay which is well protected from possible waves or swell. The depth inside Dwejra Bay ranges between 8-14 metres, with shallower reefs on both sides of Fungus Rock enclosing the bay.

On the open sea side of the rock, the bottom drops steeply to depths over 60 metres, making Fungus Rock suitable for advanced divers. The underwater scenery offers vertical walls, large boulders, small caverns and swim-throughs, fissures and gulleys. There is also a cave at 14 metres which extends far in. The dive site is classified as a Wall type. The maximum depth is 60 metres, and the recommended experience level for divers is Advanced. The site is located near Gozo.
