About Crib

Crib is an underwater nativity scene located in Ghar Lapsi, Malta. This unique dive site features almost life-sized figures cut from plate metal and welded to a tubular frame. The figures, placed by the local Maltese diving club Calypso Sub-Aqua Club in December 1992, are now adorned with a vibrant growth of sponges and algae. The artificial crib, situated in one of the overhangs on the outer reef at a depth of about 22 metres, offers an intriguing contrast of man-made against natural reef. To reach the Crib, divers navigate a system of reefs surrounded by grass and sandy bottom, with occasional caves and swim-throughs.

This dive site is recommended for advanced divers due to the potential for strong currents. The Crib dive can be combined with a dive to the nearby Finger Reef. Other underwater statues in the vicinity include the Statue of Our Lady (Madonna) in Cirkewwa, the Statue of Christ (Kristu tal-Bahhara) off Qawra Point, and a diving helmet in Wied iz-Zurrieq. The dive site type is classified as a wreck. The maximum depth is approximately 22 metres, but visibility can vary.
