About Secca del Papa

Definitely one of the best dive sites in the Mediterranean. Secca del Papa, is a large rock emerging from a maximum depth of 40 m to ca. 15 m below the surface. The rock has its name, since it resembles the pope's hat. Since this dive site is within a preserved marine area the quantity and variety of fish is unique for the Mediterranean. Practically on every dive you are able to see Barracudas and large Groupers. Not seldom did people sight some large pelagic such as ocean sunfish, tunas, Atlantic bonitos, amberjacks or blue sharks. The area offers more than just the large pope's hat resembling rock. However, for beginners and intermediate divers it is recommended to do the dive in a corkscrew manner around the pinnacle until a maximal depth of ca. 20 - 30 m. The dive site is recommended for intermediate and advanced divers due to the depth and frequent currents.
