The Twilight Zone

The Twilight Zone can be found just off the shore outside the Biangabang village on Pantar Island. The beach features many boiling hot springs but the actual dive sites temperature can be rather cold sometimes. The dive starts close to a lava flow (towards the South of the beach) or divers can rather start even more south closer to the reef. The final option is to start to the north amongst volcanic black sand. The waters can go up to 40 meters deep, although most of the marine life is found closer to the surface. This dive site is home to many odd and rare marine species such as snake eels that swim between holes in rocks and spearing mantis shrimps. Bring a dive light as many of these creatures do not come out during the day and as such a night dive might be necessary to see all the sights. One can also see octopuses that live amongst the large pieces of coral and Pegasus sea moths that live amongst rubble. Massive nudibranches, soap fish, Spanish dancers bobbit worms and gurnard lionfish are also available to see to the keen observer.
