About Vrouw Maria Wreck

The Vrouw Maria was a Wooden Hulled Dutch Merchant Ship. In October 1771 she was bound for Russia , carrying a cargo of treasure when she steered into a severe storm. The storm caused her to run onto the rocky coast, and resulted in her hull having a gash. She sank five days after the accident as the crew failed to discharge water. More then 228 years later, in 1999, this wreck was discovered bu using side scan sonars. When the divers reached the wreck, they didnt find much treasure but a clay pipe and some textiles proving the ships identity. This is a stunning dive with lots to see and explore.
